How do you use the crochet hat templates?

All you have to know is how to work in the round using any stitch, any yarn, and any size hook. Then match your crochet circle to the printed circle in the template for the proper crown size. To work on the length, fold the circle in half, align its with the uppermost part of the template, and work a tube-shape until the length reaches the bottom part of the template.

This ensures every hat will be the same size regardless of yarn, hook, or stitch. (This means you can finally work your way through all that leftover yarn you don’t know what to do with!)

How do I adjust the sizes? My [insert family member] has an unusually small/big head?

That’s easy. These templates were created based on averages, but you can easily make adjustments for your above-average family member. You can easily add more increases to your initial circle to go a little past the given circle before you begin to move on to the length. You can even make a note of how many increases you needed to get it “just right” by using a marker on the laminated template.

How do I make a slouchy hat?

The bottom length is the minimum length you need to cover the ears just below the earlobe. If you want to make it slouchy, just add a few additional inches to the total length and you’re good to go!
